We extend a welcome to Dianne Clark who became a Nikonian member in January 2016 and we have come to know her work through the lovely images that she has posted in the forums.

Dianne comes from the Land of Oz and speaks of home and her photography relating that she comes from scenic Melbourne, Australia. With the variety of city parks, gardens and unique laneways and regular travel to country Victoria and coastal New South Wales she has found many fascinating opportunities.

She relates, “Australia presents unique challenges for photography as the native vegetation is often stark and sparse. These challenges, however, present opportunities for more sculptural landscape photographs.

As well Melbourne still adheres to its British “heritage” and does have picturesque English style gardens providing a wealth of opportunities.”

As with most photographers, Dianne’s interest has evolved, “I had long had a dream of photography as a medium to express my artistic imagination.  I dreamed and I researched then in December 2015, I made my first purchase on an impulse. I arrived home with a D750 and 3 lenses, laid them out on a table and wondered where on earth to start.

I started with landscape photography, parks and gardens around Melbourne, then ventured into country Victoria. I spent endless analysing my photos, researching, reading tutorials.

Melbourne is riddled with tiny laneways which once served the purpose of removal of nightsoil when Melbourne was a brash, young city in the 1950s. Now a tourist spot attracting quirky and interesting graffiti.

Eventually I discovered that the real art of photography is not so much the technical as the ability to immerse oneself in the surrounding beauty, see it with the artist’s eye and capture the sheer joy of the experience.

This led me on to bird photography, which has become a passion, my friends say an obsession. Though I still challenge myself to continue with landscape, cityscape and what I would term “Art” photography. I also love to photograph water: the sea, still pools, reflections.”

Upon finding Nikonians Dianne comments, “Very soon after I purchased my camera in December I found the Nikonians community website. It has become my greatest source of both knowledge and inspiration. I visit the website almost daily.”  She continues, “I read the published articles, follow blogs, and sometimes participate in the forums. I study many of the photographs that are posted, referring to the equipment used and the settings, always seeking to reach the level of some of the wonderful photographs taken by members both new and experienced. I can honestly say the Nikonians have been my greatest source of learning and inspiration.

Dianne You are not along, I also live in Melbourne (Berwick) and am in my early 70's and have relatively recently rediscovered photography. And yes like you my greatest source of learning and inspiration has been my Nikonians membership, have experienced some other forums through motor homing and flying, and it is hard to find a more accepting courteous helpful bunch than the Nickonians. I found you words and photo's an inspiration thanks for doing the interview. My wife and I are currently on the Gold Coast (Main Beach) and at the end of August I have enrolled in a My Nikon Life landscape course for a day, this will be the first time I have ever had some structured teaching of photography, am really looking forward to it. Am most impressed with the progress you have made in such a short time, keep up the good work. Cheers Keith

(Edited by jrp Friday, 22 July 2016 ) Yes, the kangaroo was photographed with a 70-300mm Nikkor @ 300mm. Thank you, Harish.

Very well written article and great images too.I also joined the Nikonians in January 2016 and I find it a very lively and useful forum. By just going through the posts and articles, one gets to learn of new techniques. The only disappointing part is that I find that many of the images in the Gallery do not carry the camera or the lens through which the images were shot. There appears to be a small typo in the above article - the Kangaroo shot states that it is taken with a 70-30 mm Nikkor - I think it ought to be a 70-300 mm Nikkor.

Marsha and Dianne, thanks for sharing the story and photos. I like what you said about immersing in the surrounding beauty. That, to me, is the pleasure of the outdoors. Thanks and Enjoy! Don

This was such a pleasure doing this interview with Dianne. If you read through to the end of this feature you cannot help but be very inspired and impressed. So great of you to add your comments.

Melbourne is truly lovely. Used to travel to Oz a few years ago on a regular basis and stay at the Hilton across from the MCG. Have taken some great shots in Melbourne and Sydney with at that time a D90. That does not speak of my skill as a photographer but of the beauty of your country. Your images are lovely, never did get out to take pictures of Roo's or into the alleyways as you have done. Super shots. Thanks for the great reminders. Cheers.
