Lion Vase; sgraffito, hand thrown
Steps: Throw vase from Navaho Wheel clay. Coat with porcelain slip. Dry until leather hard. Sketch lion in pencil with a light touch to avoid disturbing the porcelain layer. Carve (sgraffito) through porcelain layer into underlying Navaho Wheel clay to create the portrait. Bisque fire, then lightly brush on Amaco HF-9 zinc-free clear glaze. Final fire at cone 6.
