Steps: Throw a spherical section of Soldate-60 clay on a domed plaster bat. Cut holes for attachments using a compass. Throw attachments "off the mound" on a separate flat bat. Score, slip, and attach components. Throw a larger spherical section with a hole in the middle on a larger plaster bat; score, slip, and join the domed ring to the gong centerpiece. Spray, sponge, and brush on underglaze. Dry slowly (1 week). Ready for suspension hole drilling, followed by firing at cone 10 for full vitrification and best sound sustain. Insert rubber grommets, then suspend from a gong stand. Striking different parts with an assortment of mallets produces a variety of timbres, pitches, and harmonics.
