My first attempt at layers in Photoshop. Edges are a Challenge!
Moon was shot straight up to reduce atmospheric dust / ice crystals!
AF-S NIKKOR ED 400mm 1:2.8 D
FYI: Moon should be shot 1-2 days before/after Full-Moon to get
Better Cross Lighting (more detail in creators from shadows).
Moon Light Exposure F-11 1/125-250 sec. 100-ISO.
Same as a Bright Sunny Earth Light Day!
Interesting information; Large Crater in lower right is called Tycho named after the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe.
Diameter 85 km/52 miles; Depth 4.8 km/2.98 miles
The crater is sharply defined, unlike older craters that have been degraded by subsequent impacts.
The interior has a high albedo that is prominent when the Sun is overhead,
and the crater is surrounded by a distinctive ray system forming long spokes that reach as long as 1,500 kilometers/932 miles.
Sections of these rays can be observed even when Tycho is illuminated only by Earth-Light (sunlight reflected off the Earth).
Foreground; Early Morning Sunrise at a less know Sedona Red Rock formation. 20 minute hike to one of my favorite morning locations !
AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm 1:2.8 ED

I’ve been shooting the moon for 25 years! My first attempt I rented a long lens
Remember it as 600mm drove out of the city. Shot transparency's made many mistakes!
Let me share what I've learned or what work's for me!!!
The best time of the year is the shortest day; Because Moon is highest in the night sky & it is also the darkest.
Shoot straight up to reduce atmospheric dust / ice crystals!
This year Moon will be closer than in recent years 10-12% this is called "Perigee"
This year shoot Dec. 29-30th. also a Blue Moon! This one was shoot at Mid-Night Dec.24 2007! Where's Santa?
Use Tripod with Mirror-up Cable-release or Timer at F-11 1/180 sec. will try F-4 at 1/1500 sec. this year. 100-ISO
Hope there is no cloud cover like last year!!!
Looking forward to see what other Nikonian’s Capture!
