I like taking macros yet only have a 84mm and was taking a picture of a wasp and well got to close and was stung would of like some stand off from the critters if you know what I mean and need help on lens type and size! As for VR, I don't really miss it on my macro lens because I always shoot hand held at 1/200 shutter speed and manual focus. Even with the 105mm and a DX camera, I was only about 8 inches away from that spider.
