Go for adobe cloud. You will not regret it. Every update is available.
Go also for nik plugins. They are free.
DXO is also a fine software. You buy one and you buy the next and the next and the next.
The choice is yours.

bhiggins Nikonian since 04th Jan 2015Thu 15-Sep-16 08:31 AMKevin - CS 4 might be older but still useful if it is not your primary application. I still use it not wanting to go Adobe subscription but it is not my primary app which is currently the standalone version 6.x of Lightroom. My workflow is Lightroom first for RAW conversion and general processing. One thing they do do well is integration of plugins only found one (plugin) that does not seem to play well. When done there I export to full 16 bits TIFF to be tweaked in specialty apps like On1 Photo 10 or Topaz Products which can include dynamic contrast controls, better noise reduction/sharpening, highlight and shadow recovery, and layered effects and masking. The final step is PS CS4 which I feel has the best repair and brushwork controls. Many landscape and travel photographers like it as the primary for loading actions related to fine luminosity layer control. DXo is said to be a fine RAW converter and very useful to studio like work where the images are transmitted wireless from camera to base station so it improve photoshoots workflow as well. It will be interesting to see what the new On1 software, Photo RAW will bring to the table scheduled for next month. On1 has some good portrait controls as well and adding more with new version. You still have time to do research and most have 30 day trials for testing before you buy...give yourself the time to do the testing as, DXo for example has a very different user interface and flow so it takes a bit to overcome that to get into the real goodies of the product.Barry

JosephK Nikonian since 17th Apr 2006Thu 15-Sep-16 04:59 PMAdobe's "photographer" bundle of Lightroom and Photoshop for $10 per month is a hard deal to beat, assuming you have a 64-bit OS.
Plus, the whole NIK plug-in set from Google is now free.
