Ferguson Nikonian since 19th Aug 2004Sat 02-Apr-16 09:27 PMthe D810 was first supported in CS6 under ACR 8.6, so you do not have any straightforward support in CS5. It is possible to get there by getting the DNG Converter (whatever latest version), convert from RAW to DNG, then use that in CS5. At least that should work, but it is very round-about.
So before going that way, it is perhaps worth asking, do you plan to update your Photoshop to make life easier?
Personally I find raw editing easiest in Lightroom, which you will get free if you upgrade Photoshop to Creative Cloud; you also get of course Photoshop and can use it without Lightroom and convert in Photoshop or Bridge.

An alternative is the following:
Use Nikon's CNX-D as your RAW converter. This way you can capture all your Nikon Camera settings, get auto lens correction and even do things like noise reduction and some editing if you wish. When you are ready to work in CS5, just convert the NEF to a 16 bit TIFF in CNX-D and it will send the file to Photoshop where you can continue your efforts in CS5 without having to buy new software nor have to worry about RAW conversion. I do this with my D810,though I have CS6 Extended. I create a flat file in CNX-D using the flat picture control and then ship that file to CS6 Extended as a 16 bit TIFF. I do not use ACR and I process the file in CS6 extended using the free Picture Postcard Workflow Panel. You can see many results in my gallery. I have been doing it this way for over a year.
