The current version can be found here and is at version 2.2.2.

The Nikon SB-900 can have its firmware updated by certain Nikon cameras and Pocket Wizards has an remote flash control system that the user can update.
You should configure Nikon Capture NX2 to include checking for updates for your other Nikon equipment, including cameras, and sigh up at Nikon for update alerts for your equipment.
Even if you do not buy a new camera, the imaging software updates maybe necessary to fix bugs or add additional processing features.

Even though you just bought NX2, you may need to upgrade it to the latest version. It's currently at ver. 2.2.2
You can download the latest version from Nikon USA. It will install over your current version without the need to enter any license codes.
