Nikonians author Darrell Young (DigitalDarrell) is currently writing Mastering the Nikon D610 and he is following a tradition he has established in all of his NikoniansPress/Rocky Nook publications: Asking fellow Nikonians members to submit images to be used in the book.
Darrell notes that this time, he's working with a very short fuse: "This book should be available much more quickly than normal since the D610 is a clone of the D600." If you have ordered a Nikon D610 and will receive it soon, there will be a short window of opportunity to create beautiful vertical images for chapter opening positions in the book. We will need 13 of them."
As background: Darrell shoots a ton of material for his books, but he wants to include images taken by members with a different viewpoint for variety. This also serves as an opportunity for our members who may never have considered being published to have their photo appear in print.
All members who have an image included in the book will receive a free copy of Mastering the Nikon D610 and be listed in a special Credits for Chapter Opening Images section of the book, with information mentioned under tech specs. Each photographer selected will also have a credit inserted beneath the submitted picture at its location in the book (opening of each chapter).
If you have your Nikon D610 already and have been shooting with it, you may already have a vertical image that could earn you a free copy of Darrell's book.
This post serves as an open invitation. Post your image here, and when the book nears final layout stages our publication team will select 13 images (one for each chapter) and contact you via Private Message with a request for the original and technical specs.
Please post only vertical images.
Here are some key points to consider (these points were also the basis for the images used in Mastering the Nikon D800):
Image Needs: • Cute child’s face with an uncluttered background, prefer shallow depth of field. • Wildlife (action or static. We always like to have a tracked subject for the chapter on AF) • Pet animal closeups without distracting elements • Beautiful woman shot (PG rated) • Handsome man shot (PG rated) • Sports (group action) • Sports (action closeup) • Motorsports (cycle, car, airplane, etc.) • Closeups or macro (well executed of an interesting subject) • Still life (interesting arrangements of objects) • Landscapes and nature scenic (beauty in nature) Basically, to keep from having to list an enormous number of things, the bottom line is we want the image you submit to show what a skilled photographer can do with a Nikon D610. It needs to have a certain “wow” factor so that it doesn’t appear to be a snapshot.
"Shoot everything f/16 at a 100 and let the lab boys worry about it."
"Nikonians membership - My most important photographic investment, after the camera."
