Taking Mick's suggestion I looked at resellerratings and Beach is legit - a score of 9 out of 10 and all-positive reviews on the top page.
That said, however, B&H gets 9.66 out of 10 and some pretty positive comments. Amazon ratings are noticeably lower than Beach Camera and embarrassingly lower than B&H.
A company loses a lot of points with me when its web-site claims stock that doesn't exist. Companies have been known to play that game to tie-up your business unfairly.
I expect Mick is right that B&H will get a shipment the same day that other retailers get theirs.
The only sure-fire way to get one of the first available bodies is to call ahead, and then visit a local store on the day they get theirs. That way you also are sure to have a known-working body in your hands with the right accessories before they get your credit card.
So...I have one pre ordered at B&H (body only) but mine still shows pending. What am I missing? Does "in-stock" just mean they got a batch and they will be sent out to pre orders until their gone? then it will say "temporarily out of stock" again?

I have purchased from Beach Camera before and never had any problems. I believe they are affiliated if not the same company as Buydig, both list Edison, NJ as their address on their websites. I've purchased cameras, lenses and various electronics from both (Beach and Buydig) without issues.
