I read this article and thought it spot on about the D600 price fluctuations.

I bought my D600 brand new in the box with the 24-85mm VR lens for $1996 last December. I figure I gave ~$1500 for a brand new, not refurbished, body in that deal, knowing that like my other DSLR's, depreciation would set in lickety split. I was and still am happy with the deal.

Something many people have forgotten since the D600 was first announced, was that Nikon Rumors initially said the camera body would list for ~$1,500. It of course came out listed higher, and has been all over the map on pricing, (going lower and lower as it turns out).

Anyway, Thom says it better.
