Get onto the Sandisk site and have a look at the recommended cards for the D600. One may go up to 128GB if one chooses to. For me 16 to 32GB is plenty. I shoot in RAW only and with either size card I get a more than reasonable amount of shots. Going bigger implies a greater risk of loss, should something go wrong with your card.
Sorry, I forgot. For speed I use either the Sandisk Extreme or Extreme Pro. Both are good for the 600. The Pro may be a notch too high, I don't know, but works well and both download quickly to the computer.

I can remember when everyone was saying that about 2 gig and 4 gig cards. Personally, I have never had that be a problem in over 100,000 shots. These cards are enormously reliable and if you setup where they are mirroring each other, it should never be a problem.
