Possible live-view aperture work-around?

I don't have a d600 although I'm seriously considering getting one. I've heard a lot of grumbling about the inability to change aperture while recording video in live view. According to a tutorial I was just watching, you should be able to adjust the exposure compensation while recording video in Shutter Priority mode. Would this effectively be an aperture adjustment? Has anyone tried this?
