Just had to tell everyone that Berger Bros. has shipped my new 800E to me. I should have it tomorrow afternoon!!!
Actually, I am in a seemingly strange situation, as I also received a call and e-mail from my "local" Nikon dealer informing me they have an 800E for me, too. Weird, huh. First, we have to wait for months and months, then I get not one, but two dealers holding them for me. Some lucky person is going to get moved up on their list after I call them tomorrow to let them know I won't be taking their camera. I will follow up with some post delivery pictures in the near future. Good luck to all you guys patiently (?) waiting.
I placed my order the day the 800/800E was announced, whenever that was...seems like a long long time ago. Actually, I turned down an 800E from my local dealer three weeks ago, primarily as a loyalty thing for Brad and Berger Bros. I have dealt with them for a few years now, and really like how they do business. In short, I think they are great and are worthy of my support.
At any rate, I took delivery of my 800E today, as Berger overnighted it to me with no shipping charge! All I have had time to do at this point is unbox it and I am charging the battery right now. Perhaps I will get a chance to get out in the morning and start learning what this thing can do.
As for supply, when I spoke to Brad yesterday he said, "These things are scarce as hens teeth." I surmise from this that they did not get a big allotment of 800E's this time around, so all who are still waiting will need to be patient, difficult as that can be at times. I can also tell you that Lisa told me a couple of weeks ago that their waiting list for the 800E was NOT very long, for whatever that may be worth to you guys.
If anyone is interested, I do know that my "local" dealer received a shipment today, and I notified them this morning that I would not be taking their offered 800E. I don't know how many they received, of course, but I do know they have a number of them at this moment. I can give anyone the particulars of how to contact them if interested. Just let me know...
Congrats on your 800E. I'm curious to know if you have any moire or color issues. I've had an 800E on order from B&H from day 1, but no sign of it yet. I'm wondering now if I should have ordered the 800 instead, after I heard about the moire issues, and possibly better availibility.
Unfortunately, I have not even turned the camera on, as of this writing. I plan to do so tomorrow and begin some testing. Should I encounter any moire issues I will certainly report it here. Regards, Ron
