Hi, I would like to improve my photography skills on the technique side and I am looking for the best books. That means enough depth & detail and still easy to understand; with tables of DOF, of exposure settings, specially for the D800.
I have visited book stores and surfed in Amazon descriptions and reader reviews. Most of the books on the marked are for beginners and teach nothing new for me.
What books and DVD courses would you recommend me?
As far I just ordered following books:
- Bryan Peterson: Understanding Exposure - Bryan Peterson: Understanding Shutter Speed - Tony Worobiec: The Complete Guide to Digital Low Light and Night Photography
I tried to order the Karl Taylor Digital Photography DVDs (from UK) and/or the US DVD sets of Emanuele Pontoriero. But is seems that they don´t send them abroad =(
Read what you have. Take some photos. Learn some more. Take some photos. Ask others for advice. Take some photos. etc.
Imagine Lance Armstrong teaching you how to ride a bicycle for a week. But you still have to ride your own bike.
Back in the film days I wanted to learn how to pan moving racing cars. So I used the end of a roll 6 shots on the cars out front of my house. On film it took 2 attempts because I had to wait and see the processed results, refine my technique then try again. Now I prefer the instant preview digital offers.
Is there an iPad version of an in depth D800 ebook somewhere?

I had been in the same situation a while back in looking for books on photography. After reading a lot of books with exposure settings, etc., I found that what I really needed was to focus on composition. Getting the picture right became easier over time, but getting the right picture is the challenge. I recommend Michael Freeman's books, especially "The Photographer's Eye."
