Here is my little experience so far with D800e 24-120mm and 16-35mm.

Positives:
IQ is great.
At 100 ISO resolution and IQ are much better than Canon 5D2 I just sold.
At higher ISO IQ and noise better if I don't zoom in to the pixel level at which point 5D2 is slightly better but it takes a lot to zoom in and in real life no one zooms in to the pixel levels unless they print to 10x15 wall at which point it would not matter anyway.
At 1600-6400 ISO it beats the hell out 5D2 and most likely 5D3 because of aforementioned reason. So huge amount of MPs wins!!!!
And DR level is simply incredible. Pushed 4 stops and no noise and no banding!!!! Canon sucks at that!!!!!
There is a rumor that with higher MP sensors it takes higher shutter speed to get rid of the camera shake. Totally Wrong!!!!
I managed to take a sharp picture of my wife (she will kill me if I post it) with 24-120mm F4 lens at 120mm FL 1/5sec. So that kills that rumor.

Grip is very comfortable and no worst than Canon camera grips.
In fact I measure grip of 7D and D800e and they are basically the same.

Once I get BG it will get even more comfortable just like I did with 5D2 and 7D.

Negatives:
Both lenses were backfocusing. Even though I don't have
left-center- right focusing problem I had to adjust both lenses to minus 11.
I might have to send it in for adjustments because I don't want to MFA every lens.
Camera will not go to sleep. I think it does not even have sleep mode.
Top LCD is always on. I emailed Nikon about that.
Some of my CF cards (Duracell 600x) don't work in the camera. Good thing I bought from Amazon so I will return them even though I bought almost a year ago. Love Amazon for that. Yet even less known brand Topram 600x works fine and very fast too. Go figure.

Secondary wheel is hard to reach and ISO button in the wrong place.
So it will take some practice but it definitely beats Canon's wheel.
I could not reach it either. And it is a main control on the Canon's cameras.

So over all I am glad I partially switched back to Nikon.

Stay tuned.....
