Hi,

There was an interview a few minutes ago on www.zone-numerique.com with Nikon France Thomas Maquaire who is in charge of professional products. The interview was a 90 minutes live chat session uniquely about D4 and D800. Here are the interesting points I noticed (translation and interpretation are mine):

- the D800 provides equivalent IQ than the D700 at every ISO
- D800 and D800E have the same firmware
- D800 is NOT the replacement of the D700
- D700 remains as a product
- D800 is NOT the replacement of the D3X
- D800 has a different product positioning than the D700 and D3X
- D800 target users are those interested into detailed images (landscape, architecture, fashion, portrait...)
- the 1.2X, DX and 4:5 crops are available in NEF
- Presently, only Sony committed to commercialize XQD cards
- D800 HDR function takes 2 images in only one button pressure. The difference can be settled between 1 and 3EV. The result is JPG only, no NEF.
- D800: to minimize micro-vibrations, the sutter ("obturateur") is equiped with an anti-vibration mechanism
- D800: latest and top of the line lenses will benefit more from the high-resolution
- D800: the 1.2X and DX crops appear as surrounded by transparent grey border. No such viewing of the 16/9 format is planned.
- D800 sensor was designed by Nikon and a partner; it is fabricated by the same partner.
- D800/D4 dynamic range and color rendering is improved in comparison to D700/D3
- D4 preorders exceed all their sales expectations.
- Capture NX will be free only with D800E (in France)

The remaining info was well known and has been written about in many posts and web sites.
