The D800 has a histogram in live view but the one caveat seems to be this note on pg 55 of the manual:
"Depending on the scene, exposure may differ from that which would be obtained when live view is not used. Metering in live view is adjusted to suit the live view display, producing photographs with exposure close to what is seen in the monitor."

Well, I am glad to see we are getting Live View histogram! For movies I am never the least bit sure what I am doing with regard to exposure when in manual mode.
BTW I searched the D700 manual for any kind of similar caveat to the one you pointed out. Can't find a D700 similar caveat.
