exposures longer than 30 seconds
I need to take some shots longer than 30 seconds and other than bulb, which is not very precise, I can't figure out how to do it internal to the camera.
I am aware of the MC 36, but my 10 pin connection already has a GPS in the port. Are there other options?

With a 30+ second exposure, you could probably trigger the shutter by hand and not worry about vibration due to the long exposure.
If you want to use both GPS and MC-36, you'll need a Y-connector. This one by Solmeta should do the job.
I'm not sure what GPS device you are using. The Nikon GP-1 has a connection for a different model remote release - the MC-DC2. This is a simple release with no timer or advanced camera controls, but it may do the job for you.

When shooting beyond 30 seconds in bulb mode the exposure time is of enough length that precision is a relative thing. I simply use my wrist watch or the timer on my smart phone - that is precise enough for just about any application as far as my experience tells me. Now, if by precise, you are referring to arriving at the correct exposure for a particular situation then that is a whole other matter. But for timing the exposure any time keeping piece will do.

I'm a big fan of a dedicated intervalometer. I usually also use a GPS as well, but my old model had a pass-through 10pin and my current one does not. I plan on getting a new model that has the pass through again as it's extremely helpful/functional with one.
Here's the one i'm looking to get. Current one is almost identical, minus the 10pin pass-through:
I had their old model which sat in the hotshoe and had a 10pin on top, which worked well for 4-5 years w/o issue. Pretty pleased with them.
As for an intervalometer or remote trigger. I usually use mine for long exposure (obviously >30 sec, but usually 2-3 min) for night city shots, and star trails. Fireworks also it is really handy to adjust on the fly.
2.4Ghz wireless trigger/intervalometer (i have similar Pixel model ~$60-80):http://www.amazon.com/Hahnel-Giga-Pro-Wireless-Nikon/dp/B003462ZV4
Super flexible, but not wireless (unless 2 devices (iphone/ipad/ipod)), i really like Triggertrap:
Plug into your phone/tablet/ipod and it does intervals, long exposure, bramping... you name it!
A lot of info - hope it helps!
