Hello all,

I've finally squirreled away enough dollars and I've got a D800 coming from Adorama. (My first time ordering from them, would have gone with B&H but the monopod disappeared from their freebie bundle.)

I've been using my old D100 for about a decade now (although it still feels like my "new" camera) but I'm very excited to dive into something that is more in league with medium format cameras and can get the ball rolling again on some video production workflow.

Of course like most of you here I imagine, I've researched the hell out of any major purchase before I make it. But that being said, I know it's going to just take some time easing into the D800 to really get used to it, particularly coming from the D100 in my case.

Do any of you have any tips on which features and aspects of the D800 a new user of the camera should focus on initially, as to not become completely overwhelmed with the entirety of it's capabilities?
I'll be taking a vacation trip to San Antonio in February, and I hope to be comfortable enough using the D800 by then so that I'm able to take shots and video and just focus on what I'm shooting - and not so much the details of how I should be doing it. (I'm the sort of person who could get worked up about those details, but I don't want to be that person on vacation.)

Is there anything about the D800 that you found to be unexpected?

And on a somewhat related note, how do you like using it for timelapse photography? I've read a few guides out there for timelapse, but are there any tailored to the D800 that you've found to be really useful?
