Based upon the advice and suggestions offered here I stopped in at the photo store I've been dealing with for years equipped with my Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 and my Nikkor 105 f/2.8 lenses and after an hour testing and speaking with the salesperson, walked out with my new D800 minus a traded in D300 (I've kept the D300s, however).

And all of what was offered to me here was absolutely true. I'm amazed by what I'm I'm getting. I haven't even set up one bank and just shot away. Here are two of the first images made with this outstanding image capturing machine:

The night shot (shot around 10:35PM) is exactly out of the camera --nothing except size, of course, has been changed. (f/4, 1/6, ISO 1600, 70mm, AF-S, Center Weighted exp., Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VR) Not too bad for handheld! I think the detail is pretty amazing! The 2nd is a crop with just a little tweaking via Capture NX2 (same lens at f/4, 1/50, ISO 200, 70mm, AF-S Center Weighted exposure --forgot to turn it back to matrix after the shot the night before!). If this is what I get just out of the box, I can't wait until I've got it set up completely and I'm more comfortable with it.

Thanks again for your assistance.
