I am new to the forum and need help finding a PDF file referenced in Darrel Young's book, Mastering the Nikon D800. On page 123 he references a PDF file that can be downloaded called the "Nikon Picture Control Reference". It describes picture control setting with lots of pictures to help you see the range of control you can achieve. Its a 24 page, 4.9MB file named PicCon.pdf. He specifically mentioned it could be found on our forum.
Only if you are using Nikon's editing software like View NX2 or Capture NX2. If you're using Lightroom or photoshop, then no, picture controls don't effect RAW photos. Only thing that does effect RAW data is ADL, as it effects exposure. So in LR/PS, you will have more under exposed images as ADL is like a highlight protection mode so to speak. Again Nikon software will read all camera settings and RAW photos should look about the same as how they look on camera's LCD.
