I have my D800E set to shoot in 14 bit lossless compressed mode. As far as I know the only downside to this, as opposed to shooting in 12 bit mode, is the somewhat larger file size. However, I recall seeing somewhere (now I can't find the reference) that 14 bit slowed down the frame rate due to the fact that the buffer will not clear as quickly as it does in 12 bit. I am not concerned about the file sizes but there are times when I would switch to 12 bit if doing so will in fact improve the frame rate. have not yet conducted any tests so I cannot say from experience. In the meantime I will appreciate your sharing your own experience and input on this issue.

Edited to add: Image Quality is NEF (RAW), no jpeg added.
