I'm a little confused about dynamic range. I just spend a couple hours shooting the images of the Sekonic target and loading them into the software to transfer a profile to my L578DR.

According to the profiling software the dynamic range of my camera is 6.4 stops at ISO 100. It seems to go up a little in the 1600-3200 range, peaking around 7 stops.

In his D800 review Thom Hogan says the D800 measures a stop over the D3x which according to the review is 10 stops. That means the D800 should be 11 stops.

On top of that DXO Marks shows the Dynamic Range to be 14.4 stops!

So what gives?
