Wecome and have fun with your new D800. I would recommend getting the Nikon grip as to avoid any passable issues that people have had with after-market grips... Some have had good ones, but I myself had a Meike fail on me, would drain a battery sitting for about two to three days....
Best of luck with your new D800! I am a new owner myself, recently adding it to my much loved D700. At 60, it´s incredible to have witnessed the development of our photographic tools since my very first camera was given to me by my parents, a Kodak Brownie at age 6! Am I ever thankful to them for introducing me to this truly great medium and a hopefully lifelong rewarding hobby. Nikonians is a wonderful forum, welcome!
I having D800 now in my hand. When I read your post, memories rewinded. I got a gift from my father long time back.I have kept the Kodak browne safe with me.It reminds of his thoughtful gift at a tender age.
D800 is stunning camera. The files are huge yet the resolution is fantastic. This is some things which suits my taste. Micro nikkor with nano coated glass lens adds the versatile nature of this body. Jaydoc

Welcome. Nikonians is a great place to learn. Bookmark the D800 forum; I think it will make you visit it more often. Even after a year of having the D800, I am still amazed at its beautiful features. ------------- Please visit my galleries: Reza Gorji Photography
