I just got my D 800 and wish I had 3. There are so many way to shoot a picture with the d 800. HDR works so easy. I will try a multiple pics next. And there is the setting thay allows you to take multiple pic over time. Now the video works great. It took a while to figure it out but the results are astounding. No I think I need 4. Ben
We have both. Only two things I like better about the D600 are weight and price. The D800 is not that much heavier. The grip, controls and handling are so much better for me that I can actually hand hold the D800 longer. I like everything else better about the D800 too.
Two points. First, the D800 was the right choice, it's megapixels, color rendition and low noise are king!
Second, the D800 truly resolves 36MP with sharp lenses where the iPhone 4/5 really only resolve about 3-4MP.
I have an iPhone 5 and while it's camera is great for a phone it does not even live in the same universe as even a D700. Pro SLR's have large dynamic range, deep color range, and superb detail redition. An iPhone pic looks flat and washed out compared to even a cheap DSLR. Here's a good ranking of cameras and their quality (1 worst to 10 best):
2 -- iPhone 4/5 2 -- Small sensor point & shoot 3 -- Large sensor point & shoot 7 -- D700 11 -- D800
