Is anyone using either of these 2 cameras as their primary bird in flight camera? What are your results? Moire problems with feathers and the 800E? How is the autofocus? Are you mainly using fx or dx for faster frame rate? Post your best pictures or website with either of these cameras . Is a anyone using both the D4 and d800's, if so which camera to you choose for BIF first? I remember an early article where EJ had both camera early on, would love his Opinion now. Thanks in advance.
Brief message while I'm on lunch at work, I have both D4 and D800E and: - no moire; - Here is an 800E sample:
- the D800E nailed the above but missed earlier and later shots in the sequence. - I reach for the D4 for buffer and quicker initial AF acquisition on BIF. I did have a weekend this winter though where the D800E tracking was better than the D4, so that weekend I switched to the D800E. May have been an AF fine-tune issue, I'm still not sure. - the 800E hunts with TC17E on TC17E and misses some shots as a result until I get it zoned in (have to point at higher contrast subject at same distancece, then bring it back on my target and refocus); - the 800E images when nailed are better than the D4; - buffer on the D4 can never ever be filled (in the real world)
Does the D800E work well with a 300 2.8 Vrll, and a 1.4 teleconverter. My friend want to purchase the D800E for his wife, who shoots with the D300S, but wants to upgrade her Camera. Does anybody use this combo with teleconverters for BIF successfully. My friend and I use the Nikon 500Vr, so we have more reach then his wife would with a straight 300 2.8.
I use a D800 and have no issue. Can't imagine any issue with the D800E, either. You won't find much moire in nature. I usually use the DX mode if I know the subject is going to be a certain distance way. Smaller files and it gives me a crop/framerate that's helpful. But if I can go full size I go full size.
Weather and health have plagued me recently but here's a BIF with a D800+200-400+2TC
