Here's the way my D800 counts shutter actuations transiting Live View from/to View Finder.

File no. /Mode /Shutter Count

(Series 1)

3627 VF-1 3967
3628 LV-1 3968
3629 LV-2 3969
3630 VF-2 3972

(Series 2)

3630 VF-2 3972 (as above)
3631 LV-3 3973
3632 VF-3 3976

(Series 3)
3641 VF-4 3990
3642 VF-5 3991
3643 LV-4 3992
3644 LV-5 3994 ***???***
3645 VF-6 3997

The count shows

1 – VF shots increment by +1
2 – Entry to LV causes no penalty
3 – LV to LV, each shot increments by +1, except File 3644 above (what happened?)
4 – LV to VF increments by +3 (+1 when shutter closed after last LV shot was counted to complete cycle when leaving LV to VF makes perfect sense, +1 for the shot and +1 for what? Here’s where we need to revise the explanation).

The shutter count is incremented by +3 leaving LV to VF. Two of the actuations are perfectly reasonable. I haven’t found an explanation for the third?

The photo file 3644 count above, when the counter incremented by two from LV to LV shot, I find **very** strange, have NO explanation for and would like to know if anyone else has seen this behavior. I’ve checked the file count field and the count around this value all match what was going on? I’m puzzled.

Possible explanations have been discussed in earlier posts here
