Hi all! This is my first post here on the forum. I have been reading hundreds of post and I am very impressed al all the knowledge there is in here. I have a Nikon D2x and 3 lenses and I wonder if I can use them when I got my D800. Nikkor 28-70 f/2.8 D (IF) Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8 D Nikon 12-24 f/4 G (IF) (DX)
Or do I have to upgrade to the new 24-70 ?
I hope you can understand my not the best English. Greetings from Sweden /David
All 3 of those lenses will work on the D800e. I am very happy with my 28-70/2.8 on my D800e. The 80-200/2.8 should work well too. Because the 12-24/4 is a DX lens, it won't cover the full frame of the D800 at some, maybe all, focal lengths.
There is no need for you to invest in new glass immediately. Try what you have and then decide what you'd like to add. Me, I'd probably fill in the under 28mm range first. I have the Nikkor 17-35/2.8 but I'd love to have the Nikkor 14-24/2.8 instead.

Even the Nikon 12-24 will work pretty decently. If you set the camera up so it does not automatically go into DX mode with the 12-24mm lens. you can then manually crop the image and get more of the image area. And I would not worry about upgrading either of you other lenses.
A little over a year ago I pulled out of storage a 20-35mm f/2.8, 35-70mm f/2.8 and an 80-20mm f/2.8 lens, the newest from 1993. I eventually traded the 35-70mm and got a 24-70mm. The image quality was just as good on the old lens. I also recently traded off the 20-35mm for a 17-35mm. Again the image quality was just as good.
I wished I had the 35-70mm back as it is smaller and lighter. The 17-35 I'm enjoying for the extra 3mm wide angle. And I'm keeping the push pull 80-200mm for quite a while. It is as 98% as good as the new 70-200mm except at the far end, and then it is still very good.
Thanks for your comfort words, now I can go for the D800 without get ruined Here in Sweden everything is very expensive. An 24-70 cost $2400 so I am glad I can use my old lenses at last for to start with. The D800 cost $3750 I also think I keep my D2x Again, thanks /David
