Hi Don - I also purchased this Meike battery grip from Amazon.com and returned it recently (less than a month). Some are happy with their purchase and I am one of those unfortunate ones so I had to return it back to the seller. I can't blame you for getting one due to the lower price. I'll get the original Nikon grip later on instead.
Thanks Scott.... I wish I had asked you guys before the purchase, but it was an impulse buy and not that expensive. I use a tripod and L-Bracket 99% of the time, but thought this would be fun if I wanted to run around trying some freehand stuff. I'll be extra careful putting it on and taking it off.... and I may email you with your "power removal" technique! .
I also bought the Meike grip and have had it on and off the camera several times with no issues... I also put some foam tape on battery tray to help with slight play and also seemed to stiffen up the grip a little also.
