I shot a series of photos outside at a sign across the street and a flag down the street. These were compared to live view. A clear difference.

Then I read on Thom's site that a special target is required to accurately discern the situation. So I printed out a bunch of striped targets, and tested again.

You can see the results at http://www.osthus.us/focus_test/

The first 8 images are the "real-world" tests. The last batches are striped-target tests. Shot with 50 MM and 24-70 at 70 MM. There is a zip file for anybody who wants to see them all but not download one at a time.

So, do I have the problem I think I do or did I err by seeing a problem in real-world shots?

Thank you for your time and insight.
