Hi Rockey, although one AF problem that has been identified is based on faulty data inserting into a eeprom lookup table, there are other possible causes of different potential AF problems. It is possible that your camera had an AF problem that was not related to the one most reported. It is a very complex camera in its state of the art technology so there are literally millions of potential failure combinations. There are millions of transistors alone in it. It has more processing power and memory than the moon landing craft......but of course so does your cell phone;>) Stan St Petersburg Russia

My autofocus problem definitely appears to be exactly the same as others here and on other websites. The center focus point is sharp, and the far left is badly out of focus. It will be interesting to see what part(s) they replace and if it affects the need to fine tune four out of five lenses.
There are other mechanical conditions that would give the same symptoms which could only be determined by measurement and evidence, such as secondary mirror support alignment or senor back plate distortion.
When the symptom of a car not starting is given, there are a great many potential causes even if some report their problem was due to a dead battery. The camera is a complex array of optical, mechanical, electronic and programming systems and any one or combination could simulate any symptom.
It might be that you had the same problem as the data error in the look-up table but they found something else that was out of tolerance also. Or, as often is the case, dis-assembly damaged something that needs to be replaced. Gary Poole's camera came back with a broken 10-pin jack but his primary complaint was repaired. They did not notice the new problem before packing for return. Maybe you were luckier in the tech did know that a new problem was induced. Stan St Petersburg Russia
My D800 was listed as B1, Moderate Repair: Minor Parts Replaced. When the camera was returned, ADJ Auto focus operation and CKD Communication was listed. As far as I can tell, no parts were replaced. I will guess that the focus problem might have called for a part replacement but on further inspection only an adjustment was required. Hope you have your camera back soon. -------------------
