When I mount an AF-D lens and turn custom setting c1 on, in A mode the aperture can only be set on the lens aperture ring and setting f7 is greyed out not only in P mode but also in A mode. Does anyone else have this behavior?
Can this be by design? I can find nothing in the manual or in Thom Hogan's book to that effect.
The clue was that the displayed aperture on the camera was the smallest for the lens, and unlocking the aperture ring did not result in FEE but continued to display the aperture selected on the lens. Thank you all for your enlightenment.
Presumably, you have Custom Setting f9 set to "Aperture Ring" - that's why you can only adjust the aperture on your AF-D lens using the lens ring.
In that configuration, Custom Setting f7 "Aperture Lock" is not available - that feature only works when you have aperture control assigned to the camera's Command Dial; it stops the aperture changing when you turn the Dial.
I don't see that Custom Setting c1 is relevant to this situation.
Bingo! I have no idea, (well probably some fat figures were involved) how f9 got changed from the default. What a great resource this is here, looking forward to meeting some of you at ANPAT this year.
