Can someone tell me the advantages of the grip for the D800? I had one on my D700 because it doubled the frame rate, but the D800 doesn't benefit in that way does it? I really don't care about the sideways "hold" and I don't know that it offers any additional battery capability.
D810, D750, N1-J5, N1-V3 (and a few other cameras) and a BIG handful of lenses.

Yes, it does.
The MB-D12 as supplied will allow you to use a second EN-EL15 battery, thus doubling your number of shots. It will also allow the use of AA cells. With an additional tray/door it will also support the EN-EL18 battery from the D4, which provides even greater capacity.
