I've had a tech support inquiry open with Nikon for about 5 weeks now with no fruitful updates. They keep telling me to please wait while they review my sample images. Today I made a new support ticket and immediately received an email telling me to send in my camera for repair. Before sending in my beloved D800 which works 99% fine, I want to get some details of your experiences.
So, please report on what you've experienced with your repair of the left-sided AF issue. If the poll doesn't give a good explanation of your situation, please post your experience.
Hi, I live 10 minutes from the service center. My camera is fine, but I am willing to go down and talk to a technician face to face, to find out what the deal is at this point with the procedure involving the focus issue.... let me know if I can help?
That's very nice of you to offer. I'd certainly be curious to see what they have to say. Perhaps face-to-face they'll be more forthcoming as Nikon has been very elusive over the telephone. I'm reluctant to send mine in since I don't want new problems or a service saga.
My D800 definitely has the left focus issue but I am waiting for procedures to work their way through the system before sending it in. I figure at some point I'll get a big chunk of dust plastered to my sensor and then I will send it in for cleaning and left focus.
I cannot cast a vote yet. I hope this thread is still up when mine gets back. I sent it to El Segundo yesterday. I first contacted Nikon repair on May 9th, sent photos, explanation, etc. A few days later sent more photos. Over the next few weeks I sent a few more emails requesting a decision. I received their OK and shipped it off yesterday, June 15th.
I hope it doesn't take too long. The D3s spoiled me but the D800 has me drooling.
I just Fedex'd mine off to Melville this afternoon. It should be there Wednesday and we'll see what happens. I have a lull in my need for the camera right now, so I figured it's worth sending it off and seeing what happens.
