When I took my D800e out of my camera bag this evening it was completely dead! Not even the frames remaining displayed on the top LCD. Turning the power switch had no effect. Swapping to a freshly charged battery and removing both memory cards didn't help either.

When I finished shooting yesterday afternoon, I swapped in a recently charged battery and a different CF card and put the D800e my bag. This evening when I saw the blank display I swapped in a freshly charged battery, but no difference. I recharged the battery that was in the camera, and swapped batteries again. Still no change. All the memory cards used in the camera check OK in my external reader.

So, my D800e in a box ready to be taken to UPS for a trip to Nikon USA in Melville, NY tomorrow morning. It's going to cost about $43 to ship, $32 of which is insurance.

The ironic thing is I had just finished a sales job on a Canon user who had all his gear stolen and was considering replacing his stolen gear with a D800/D800e kit. I won't tell him about this incident!
