I have called several retailers nationwide and they all tell me that they haven't received any notice that Nikon is shipping the D800s. Nikon did an inventory two weeks ago but it looks like they are not shipping based on feedback from various sources.
I am really curiouse since Nikon Rumors today announced that the D800e will be shipping tomorrow in limited quantities of course.
I received an email from AAFES yesterday updating me on the status of my D800 pre-order. Nikon USA told AAFES that the "backordered" D800's will be released on April 15th (this coming Sunday) and mine "should" ship shortly after that date. Of course no word on how many or where they would go. BTW, when you order high end Nikon products from AAFES they are shipped to you directly from Nikon USA. My D3s and both 70-200 VR II's came that way.
It will be interesting to see how accurate that info is and if so, will people/dealers start receiving D800's next week.
Thanks Charles. I wonder what happened to my last post and the other posts from additional colleagues. They dissapeared. Very strange since we were making a comment on the fact that some of the D800s have shown a green cast in the LCDD and they had to be returned. I hope this comment does not dissapear like the previous one.
I just got home from picking up my new D4 from my dealer. I got some "intel" for you D800 Wannabes. Nikon is shipping out hundreds or maybe even thousands of D800's from Los Angeles Thursday (April 19th) to dealers nationwide. I was told to expect my D800 this time next week!
So, there is hope on the horizon!
Now, I am going to go enjoy my D4 for now. Maybe a trip to Ding Darling NWR is in order for this weekend!
