Nikon has just released a firmware update for these two lenses:
"When this lens is used with Nikon 1 cameras released in, or after, August 2012, the camera can be turned off by locking the lens barrel (retractable lens barrel button), even if the monitor has turned off and the camera has entered standby mode."
So the feature from the new J2 camera of automatically turning off the camera by locking the lens will be available with these lenses, too.
These are the European Nikon links. USA links will be available later. Usually it takes 1-3 days.
I tried this update on my new V1 with 10-30, but it doesn't seem to work (e.e. the camera won't shut off when you close the lens). Does anyone know if this is because the Europe version doesn't work with U.S. cameras, or is there something else going on? The firmware installed fine from the link, but that's all I have to go on. If it's a question of Europe/U.S. has there been any word from Nikon U.S. on when to expect a fix? Thanks.
As I mentioned in other threads, this is a clear case of Nikon trying to slip a fast one by forcing people to read between the lines. Note the techbase comment "When this lens is used with Nikon 1 cameras released in, or after, August 2012..." The only System 1 cameras released on or after that date are the J2 and the new V2. So the V1 and the J1 are out of luck on using that feature. Nikon just didn't have the moral fibre to say that clearly.
It is my understanding you cannot update the lens firmware on a J2/V2 camera due to a camera firmware problem, I think it is said you need to do the update from a J1/V1 camera to update the lens firmware.
