Received my shipment today of replacement covers (I ordered 3 just in case) and I'm not sure (in fact I may just have wishful thinking) but they appear to have better fitting mechanism then the old ones.

Yeah, we're in agreement Willem, but what I was asking was - what do you use the GPS data for? If I were out in the wilderness taking pics, I can see how it could come in handy trying to find the same spot again, but I'm not sure I would use the V1 in that kind of environment. By the same token I can also imagine using it on other cameras too, but if so, why leave it on the V1?

Ehh, just what it is ment for: attach places to my pictures.

No, not in the wildernes. I used to travel a lot (for pleasure) and always got confused afterwards where some pictures where taken. I then added (years ago) a GPS unit to my camera (a D3X at that time) and got addicted.

Tom, The GPS that fits on the V1 is not the same GPS that fits on the DSLRs. As far as I know the GPS used on the V1 fits only the V1. So, there wouldn't be any real reason to take it off the V1. Regarding what to use it for. If you use Lightroom 4 or View NX2, those programs pull the GPS data from the metadata and automatically plot on maps where the photos were taken. Best, Tom (from just down the road in N. Virginia)

I think replacement would be futile. I put a FullSize shoe adapter on mine. I mount an Azden SMX-10 Stereo mic on it when shooting Video. I will replace that if a 3rd Party ever makes a "Hot Shoe" adapter. The Nikon one does not transfer the electric contacts but does lock very securely.
Thanks for that tip Garrett I have been contemplating taking my V1 out on the course as we have some lovely birdlife. I think I'll make a separate trip where I can pay attention to NOT losing this cover, cheers Deb
BTW Golf in Ireland must be lovely at the right time of year .....
