This is correct. However, he's asking the wrong question. It's not the HDMI port that needs to be used, it's another port. Whether that is the expresscard slot, USB2, Thunderbolt, or other. Numerous manufacturers make tools for this (Aja, BlackMagic, Matrox) and they work well.

FWIW, I think Hogan has provided us with a nicely written and well balanced article that contains a series of very helpful pointers. My own experiences are limited to using a Ninja 2 with both D4 and D800.
