Hi all, I'm delighted to say I am now a proud owner of a D800. I have a couple of sennheiser wireless lapels microphones. Does anyone know of a device that can be plugged into the camera to pick up these mics? Cheers, Mel.
You have two lapel (lavalier) mics, assumed then that you also have the body packs (transmitters) for them correct? These (condenser) mics require phantom power from the batteries in the pack and have different specs, making each brand specific to, not interchangeable.
If so, you would need a receiver, usually for rack mounting and that would need to be hard wired to the mic input of the camera.
There are (dynamic) mics out there, Da Cappo/Que Audio would be one that may work as a direct feed into the circuit on the camera, and these folks are based in Brisbane I believe so you could call them and find out if the input specs, impedance etc. are compatible.
There are portable set ups, like Samson, that can be connected to DAR's and cameras.
You could do it one of a few ways. You could plug your receiver directly into the camera with an adapter similar to this (assuming the receiver uses XLR, or your system may already use mini plugs so you wouldn't need an adapter):
Or you could plug it into an audio recorder (or a preamp which plugs into the audio recorder) and sync the audio with the video after the fact. If you go that way I'm pretty sure you'd be using XLR. I have a preamp now, but I'm looking to get something more portable, like this one:
