Best D5100 video settings for vacation clips?
I will be going on vacation shortly and intend to take mostly photos. But since the D5100 allows for video I might want to take advantage of it a few times. For the purpose of "home movie" quality video, and in the interest of conserving media card space, what do most people generally set their video to? 1080? 720? what frame rate? Is there really a need for full HD settings for video that will only be used to "capture memories for home use or quick Facebook posts?

I'm not sure there is a "most people" answer to your question. I personally record at 1080p/24, because
a) The target device is usually my 60" HDTV.
b) 24 fps yields a more film look, whereas 30 fps can look more like a soap opera.
However, since you mention Facebook, you should probably go with 720p/30 or 640x424/30 if you just want fast uploading.
You may also want to look into getting an Eye-Fi card; they make it easy to upload to Facebook... without needing to remove the card from the camera (the d5100 supports turning the card on/off in its menu).
