Today, I went out in very cloudy and drizzling weather. While the bird hunting was good, the light, shall we say, sucked. I found the D7000 does has limits on its ability to produce fine detailed images at high ISO. At least in my hands.

Each of the attached photos has been sharpened and noise reduced to the best of my ability in LR3 and sometime further processed in PS CS5 to try and use masks to bring out the birds from the dark surroundings. Each one is cropped to some degree to get rid of clutter and give a nicer arrangement.

Every shot was taken at around 1/500, F/8 and ISO 3200 with the Sigma 50-500 OS lens. I used F/8 to try and get a better DOF in the dim light with this lens.

I know you can't expect the impossible. However, if any of you guys have advice on how I might get better results in similar conditions in the future, I would love to hear it. Outside of buying a $5000 F 2.8 lens that is.
