Looks like the D7000 stills has an availability problem. It has not shown up yet on most of the web sites such as Amazon, Crutchfield, etc. All are showing none available. The only retailer seems to be Best Buy and they do not have it in stock in my location.
Any idea when it will be more available nationally? Looks like Nikon will miss out on the holiday selling season.
Best Buys literally bought the entire first batch of D7000 camera kits. My local camera shop got their first one directly from the West Coast Distribution on Dec 17th. They do not even have a delivery date for more. After I hounded them nearly daily they got mine from a different store about a month ago. It paid off, because they added 3 lens to that sale.
I remember when the D300 and D3 were released, each store got 1-3 cameras. Hopefully, the high volume retailers will not grab all the D400, D800, and D4 cameras when they come out.
Thanks for the heads-up on D7000 availability at Roberts Camera. I ordered last evening 12/19 online and they shipped today. They were also offering a $200.00 discount on any Nikkor lens if purchased with a D7000 or D300 body, so I picked up an AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED. The camera and lens were shipped today are will be here this Thursday Dec. 23rd. Fantastic bargain!

I see the 18-105 Nikon lens on their website for $359.97. I believe this is the same lens that comes with the D7000 package. Are they giving $200. off this lens as well when you buy the body only? Also did you have to ask for this discount. I don't see anything on their website about $200. off.

When you search their site for the lens http://robertscamera.com/ you will see the following if that particular lens is available at a discount. You don't have to ask for a discount, it is reflected in the cart before you finalize the transaction.
Here's what was displayed when I searched for the 10mm-24mm Nikkor lens. Instant Savings Apply Save $200 in cart when purchased with Nikon D7000, D300s

UPDATE: Just search for Nikkor, then scroll through all their lenses. You will see the "Instant Savings Apply" statement and the discount amount for that lens.

Hello, I found that Deleware Camera was getting supplies in for their stores. Website is cameraspot.com The online guy's name is Bill and was a pleasure to work with and works out of the Williamsville NY store outside of Buffalo NY. The number there is 716-631-5600. Dave
It seems that in some stores you could get a D7k kit but it seems almost impossible to get a body only. I ordered a body a while ago and there was no indication that it would be shipped before end of the year. Finally I was lucky, my favorite shop got a bunch of kit versions and agreed to replace my previous body only order by a kit.
yeah, they seem to either be pushing the kits or all the body-only buyers have just gotten all the body-only stock. Frankly it seems like either Nikon badly misjudged who would be buying this camera (existing customer base who already have lenses) or they have simply decided to cash in as much as possible by making a lot more kits that they can get a bunch of extra $$$ for.
My neighbor also tried to order a D7000 body this evening and got "The requested quantity for "D7000 (Body Only)" is not available." He wanted to take advantage of the following discount. Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II Instant Savings Apply Save $250 in cart when purchased with Nikon D3000, D3100, D5000, D90, D7000, D300s Savings end 12:00am January 01, 2011
He is going to call Roberts Camera in the morning to see if they will accept the lens discount if he pre-orders the D7000 body. I hope they will because the discount brings that lens price down to $509.97
Sometimes it just needs luck. Today I found a colleague at work who bought my unused kit lens (18-105mm). By the way, if someone from Switzerland is following this discussion, Heiniger AG has the D7000 Kit 18-105mm and the D7000 Kit 18-200 on stock.
It looks like the D7000 with kit 18-105mm is currently in stock at Amazon. I ordered a D7k (body only) on December 15th, and was put on the waiting list. I got an email today saying I'll have it by the 24th. Or it might mean they'll ship it on the 24th, it's not really clear. But soon anyway.
I had ordered a body and 2 discounted lens from Crutchfield. The body was back ordered so they sent me the 2 lens seperately at the discounted price. The salesperson I spoke with said that if I found a body before they could get me one to cancel the order and get the body elsewhere. I did that and was still charged the discounted lens price.

Europe is starting to get stock regularly but I was not expecting to see them here in Russia until after the holidays. I dropped by one of the chain camera stores that opened an location in a 300 store shopping center that opened 2 weeks ago. My previous visits to different stores in the chain got answers to the question "when are you going to get D7000's in?" of "never, we are not going to get any more Nikon" Canon is a lot more popular here because they are a lot cheaper but there are some Nikon shooters and lots of good glass on shelves. To my surprise this mini-version of a camera store, the others in the chain are 4-5 times larger, has not only a stack of D7000 kits, but also a few bodies only. The sad part is that the body only is $1,668 and the kit is $1800. They also had 2 D3s, a stack of D700's, D300s for $1280 body only, and a pretty decent deal on a D700 kit including the 28-300. The D90 kit with 18-105 was $1200. This little hole in the wall in a mall also had a lot of accessories I had not seen here in any store such as the LightSphere, several types of RF triggers and more models of Nikon compatible flash units than I've seen here before. I can get $800 for my D90 so the difference here versus the US would not be that great. One girl has been bugging me to sell her my camera, so...... Stan St Petersburg Russia
Amazon is getting the D7000 body only in periodically so get on their notification list. Also, Ritz Camera (www.ritzcamera.com) is taking orders and shipping in less than two weeks. Their return policy is slightly crappy though (10 days rather than 30 day).
>I stepped into the Best Buy in Hoover, Alabama two days ago >and they had 7 of the D7000 kits on hand. Now I have to learn >to use a D7000, a daunting task for an old inept amateur. >Should be fun. > >Jim
Now it is time to start asking each other questions on how this thing works. I got mine today as well.

soooo.... did you get the latest greatest D7000 or the D700 which is much easier to learn and use and is also better in low light?
I have three complications and better uses of the money.1 Starting an additional side business this month, 2, the gift giving season is upon us(here the gifts are brought by Grand Father Frost, a kindly overweight man with red fur clothing, white beard and instead of elves, a lovely young Snow Maiden. Together they visit homes at night in a sleigh packed with goodies, pulled by 3 reindeer, all on New Years Eve.) and 3. a new GF who has lots of ideas of what to do with any extra cash....;>)
Besides, I've not exhausted the capabilities of my D90. It would be a shame to retire such a worth and loyal companion. I sure like what I have seen what the D7000 produces with decent lenses and getting a D700 would require replacing several of my key focal lengths with higher cost FX lenses. If the new side business is as successful as predicted, I'll use its income for play things.
There is a #4 in the list of priorities, I am taking ground school for picking up a helicopter license. A good friend bought two new French made helicopters this year and uses one for commuting, and has given me free access to either one until May when one goes into service for tourist flights over St Petersburg. The weather is too cruddy for flying so it is ground school for me. I've had a fixed wing license for years but sold my planes 15 years ago. The hourly costs of keeping a helicopter in the air is outrageous however so my flying will be limited to borrowing his. He has a helipad at the yacht harbor next to his office and one at his country home so the 1 hour car commute has been reduced to 8 minutes by helicopter.
The big brown truck of happiness delivered my D7000 and 10mm-24mm Nikkor this afternoon. Indiana to Florida in 4 days from time of order. Great job http://robertscamera.com/ Free shipping, no tax and a $200.00 discount on the lens when the body was purchased.
I turned file number sequence ON and file naming to D7K_xxxx (my D-90 uses the default DSC_xxxx)
I also just purchased a D7000 body from Service Photo and spoke with Burke. What a great guy. He busted his tail to get the camera shipped out today via 2nd day air so I have it on Friday in time for vacation.
He is my hero and I'll buy from him again when the need arises.
Just outstanding service from Service Photo and no I have no affiliation, I'm just a happy customer.
Burke at Service Photo is awesome! I ordered the (2) D7000 Bodies yesterday and they arrived via USPS Express Mail today. I am unpacking them right now. This is great. I got these before New Year's day!
If any of you are still trying to find a D7000 body, try Service Photo! They have outstanding customer service!
I got tired of checking and waiting with Amazon so I bought the kit and am trying to offload the lens. Didn't hurt the wallet as bad due to rebate when buying camera and a separate additional lens, but I still need to get rid of the 18-105.
