I understand that engaging the 1.3 cop function on the D7100 doesn't change the resolution, but simply discards the information from the outer 25% of the frame. I also understand that it can gain you some FPS, and allow you to cram more images onto your card, but I was wondering if it provides any benefit over simply performing the same crop in post?

I would think that using the full frame and cropping in post would give both a better chance of correctly framing a fast-moving subject, and more latitude for placement of the subject within the crop, so unless space or speed are of the utmost importance, I really don't see myself using the 1.3 crop much at all.
