Can someone point me to a discussion on a D7100 vs. a D300 regarding shooting frame rate in jpeg, Fine, Optimal mode for indoor sports (primarily high-school basketball) shooting?

I am reading some discussion on the "perceived" slow frame rate on the D7100 vs. the D300, but it seems that is in RAW mode. I know about the significant drop in fps on a D300 when going from 12 bit to 14 bit, but I think that is in RAW. I may need to re-read some of the other posts and see if I missed the information I am seeking, which is entirely possible

I have a D300/grip and am starting to shoot some indoor high-school sports, currently with a Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 (I know that is not optimal) and starting tonight with a Sigma 50mm F1.4. For my purposes, I am shooting in jpeg, Fine, Optimal mode and I have no intentions at this time of shooting this venue in RAW .

I have to go to ISO 3200 at 1/250 or 1/320 to get enough light in most places, but ISO 1600 works occasionally. The Sigma 50-150 F2.8 is very quick to focus---outdoors---but not so in the lower indoor light. Most of my images are coming out in less than perfect focus, with little contrast and too much noise; in other words they are not very usable. The 50mm F1.4 will help a lot, if I can do my part correctly.

I am thinking of a D7100 for the low light capabilities as well as all of its other qualities, but am a little confused with the fps discussion vs. the D300.

If I can get comfortable with the D7100 frame rate in jpeg for the indoor shooting, I know I would love it for the rest of my shooting interests.

All comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Steve
