I received my new D7100 yesterday and proceeded to put it to its paces today with my travel lens 18-200mm. My first impression of this kit is very favourable: although the weather was dull and rainy I was pleased with the results: the colours were very true although a bit underexposed. I attach a couple of shots (a couple of them look a bit soft (water fall and winding road) as I used glamour glow). Comments welcome Jean-luc
Thank you Tom. Yes, I did not expect to get some decent results right away. I was lucky enough to find a very good youtube video which explained the focusing system and this was really useful. My next step is to get some shots of moving things, people or animals. Jean-luc
very nice shots. I'm becoming enamoured with reflective shots. even with the 7100 on the sick list, I think I may have to take the D80 out this weekend. I have a few idea of where i want to shoot weather permitting
Congratulation and some fine images. I love my D7100 and although have used it mainly for wildlife it's fast becoming a landscape friend to my D800. With the absence of the AA filter, I even think of it as a D800E lite
Thank you Richard. It is interesting to hear as I also have a D800 and was considering using the D7100 solely for my far away travels (usually backpacking) but maybe in other situations I could take both: the D800 with 24_70 and the D7100 with 70-200 when I have the space : do you sometimes carry them both? my bag would not accomodate them. An interesting question, but no I don't take both. I use my D7100 for wildlife + 70-200mm f2.8 and 300mm f4 and associated tele-converters and my D800 for landscape with my 24-70mm f2.8 and 16-5mm f4. As an example, next year we are going to Norway and Iceland and I shall take the D7100 + 300mm for wildlife, however I have very recently bought the Fuji X-E2 + 18-55mm lens as a holiday and travel kit instead of lugging the D800 combo's about.
A quick calculation tells me that the D7100/D800 plus 24-70/70-200mm would add up to 4Kg + the bag, so you are looking at around 5-6Kg but no other lenses with all the accessories. So for me at least that's too much.
