i read up on programing manual primes on the d7000 or other DSLR that allow metering for them. I know how to change the settings on the camera depending on what lens is mounted.

I looked up about zooms and could not find out enough answers. One article said program as many sizes as you want if you have a zoom.

Do you have to constantly look at the zoom to know what mm you have at that moment then program the camera and shoot. I think I would miss many shots with this workflow.

Is there any easier way to conquer this scenario? Basically I want to shoot and not have to look at the zoom body to make my correct settings.
