Adobe just released the D7000 raw file converter for Elements 9, CS5, and Lightroom 3. They apparently have no plans to support the D7000 in earlier software versions. I just installed the Camera Raw 6.3 plug-in for Elements 9 and it works fine.
It is available on their web site in the downloads section. Look on the Product Updates section at the right side of the screen for the "Camera Raw 6.3 update".
The most annoying thing about Adobe Photoshop is that when they release a new version of CS, they do not provide updates for earlier versions. So, I'm afraid CS4 will not support the new Raw updates. When you consider the full cost version it's an outrage!
Actually it is a hidden advantage to not be able to directly view or edit D7000 raw files in CS-4. By using the batch conversion feature of ViewNX or Capture NX2, to convert to 16 bit TIFF which CS4 can handle fine, you will have a better rendering of the NEF files than if you had used ACR.
