D7100 and minimum computer requirements
I've just begun experimenting with my new D7100 (upgrading from a D90). I typically shoot raw, using capture software and had no issues with the D90. The new larger files are bogging down my computer (only 4G memory). Any advice/suggestions anyone can give regarding minimum computer components would be appreciated before I upgrade. Thank!

Capture NX2 is pretty demanding in memory if you turn on real time preview of accumulated edits. Things speed up a lot when turning off the cululative edit view but only seeing your current editing function is less intuitive to use.
I use a i7 quad processor laptop with 8 gig of RAM, 64bit Windows 7 and the newest version of Capture NX2 works much smoother and reliably than prior versions. Be sure to upgrade to the latest version and hopefully you can use a 64 bit OS. I am using it primarily for D800 files which in compressed lossless, are about 42-45mb each. I also use Lightroom and Photoshop latest versions and those work very well with less resources compared to Capture NX2.
Hard drive performance and 64 bit multicore processors are pretty much the standard now so anything that is current will work. If you want more than "it works", like speed in editing more than one file concurrently, an SSD drive, large archive drive and lots of RAM, 12+gig of ram and a fast display processor are all much cheaper now than a few years ago.
Four gig of RAM is enough to run Lightroom well.
Which version of Captur NX2 are you using?

Capture is version 2.2.1
I've heard 16G of ram can be used since windows 7 is 64bit. the new laptop would be almost exclusively for photography. I'm going to look at Dell and Lenovo & see what's available off the shelf.
